As we previously shared, in December 2024, Hunter — who played college football for the Jackson State University Tigers and University of Colorado Buffaloes — won the Heisman Trophy. Aside from garnering attention for his win, the footballer also had a viral moment with his fiancée Leanna Lenee.
Since the drama, Travis Hunter again makes headlines for his talents during the 2025 NFL Draft. On Thursday night (April 24), the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him in a round 1, number 2 pick. The Jaguars traded up to secure the number 2 pick as they selected wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter. The trade pushed the Cleveland Browns down three spots.

James Gladstone And Travis Hunter Speak On Jacksonville Jaguars No. 2 Pick Trade At 2025 NFL Draft
Speaking on the trade, first-time general manager James Gladstone said:
“There are players that you can target and acquire who alter the trajectory of a game. There are players that you can target and acquire that alter the trajectory of a football team. There are very few, and it’s rare to be able to target and prioritize a player who can alter the sport itself. And Travis is somebody that we view has the potential to do that.
Obviously, there’s a lot for him to learn as he steps into the NFL, but we view him through a unique lens and it’s exciting for us to be able to add someone to this organization, who, by being nothing more than who he is, elevates the space around him. And I am excited about the opportunity, to be able to put those words now to action, and have our fan base and supporters see what I meant by those lines of thought.”
Reacting to the comments, Travis Hunter said:
“There’s no pressure for me. Just have to go out there and do my job, be Travis Hunter. They did everything they could to come get me. Now, I’ve got to do everything I could to help win and help the organization.”

Travis Hunter Surrounded By Mother, Father, Fiancée, And Lil Wayne At 2025 NFL Draft
While receiving the news, Travis Hunter stood next to his fiancée, his mother Ferrante Edmonds Harris, his father Travis Hunter Sr., rapper Lil Wayne, and more. In December 2024, when Hunter was named Heisman winner, he notably talked about his father’s absence during his speech.
He revealed that his 3-year probation kept him from attending the ceremony. Hunter Sr. previously served a 90-day sentence for an arrest on gun and drug charges in 2023. However, ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, the court lifted Hunter Sr.’s travel restriction. The proud father was able stand right next to his son at the draft.

Lil Wayne Supports Travis Hunter At 2025 NFL Draft After Signing Him To Sports Agency
Just as Lil Wayne stood by Travis Hunter during the 2024 Heisman ceremony, he again supported the baller during the 2025 NFL Draft. According to Front Office Sports, Hunter inked a deal with the rapper’s sports agency, Young Money APAA Sports. The news arrived after the Heisman ceremony and ahead of Hunter’s declaration for the NFL Draft.
While Young Money plans to handle all of Hunter’s on-field representation, he will reportedly “remain with SMAC Entertainment for his off-field representation” — the same agency that helped him secure NIL deals while at Colorado U, plus his brand deal with Adidas. SMAC also represents baller Shedeur Sanders and his father Deion Sanders. Sanders, who is a Hall of Famer and Colorado coach, had Hunter under his wing at Colorado.
