Ahead of the results, a new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll surveyed 2,464 United States adults between April 18-22, 2025. The poll’s findings revealed that only 39% of Americans answered “yes’ when asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president?”
This new number marks a steep 6% drop from February 2025’s results. At the time, 45% of Americans said “yes” when asked the same question while 55% boldly said “no.” According to ABC News, in polls dating back 80 years to 1945, the previous low in approval for a president at or near 100 days in office was 42% — which is when Trump was in office for the first time in 2017.

Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos Poll Reveals 39% Approval Of Donald Trump Ahead Of 100 Days Of Second Term
In his second term, Donald Trump has faced even more pushback on many of his policies. And it doesn’t help that there is extensive economic uproar among Americans. The nation currently fears an incoming recession. And to make matters worse, Trump seemingly has yet to fulfill his promise of turning the economy around and slash everyday prices. Despite this, he is still beating the Democrats in Congress when it comes to handling the nation’s issues.
In the same Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, 73% of those surveyed said the economy is in bad shape. 53% said Trump has made it worse since taking office. 41% said their own finances have worsened since Trump gained a second term. The latter number is the same number of folks who said this under President Joe Biden last summer.

CNN Poll Reveals 41% Approval Of Donald Trump Ahead Of 100 Days Of Second Term
Meanwhile, 62% said prices are rising under Trump, despite his campaign promises to cut costs. 71% said they view his tariffs as a negative factor in price inflation. 31% said they believe Trump will help give the economy a stronger foundation for the long term. Elsewhere, 65% said Trump’s administration is attempting to avoid complying with federal court orders. 64% said he’s doing too much and going too far in trying to expand his presidential powers (ie: a third term, etc.). 62% said they don’t believe his administration respects the rule of law.
Meanwhile, over at CNN, they share similar sentiments. A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that Trump had a 41% approval rating as his 100-day mark of his second term approaches. CNN noted that 41% is the lowest for any newly elected president at 100 days since at least Dwight Eisenhower, including Trump’s own first term. CNN’s poll found that Trump’s approval of handling the presidency is down 4 points since March, and 7 points lower than it was in late February. Only 22% of Americans polled by CNN strongly approve of his handling of the job and about twice as many say they strongly disapprove (45%).
