The Warrens are back for their last case.

Warner Bros. released the first official trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites on Thursday, which marks the fourth and final Conjuring movie. However, it’s not necessarily the last in the franchise.

This Conjuring film, like the others, is inspired by the real-life case files of paranormal investigators and couple, Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). This time, it follows the 1986 Smurl case, a family who was tormented by a demon for more than a decade.

“Every case is different. Every family is different. Once we start, there is no going back. Anything can happen. And most likely, anything will,” Ed says in the trailer.

Lorraine hints at this one being the most dangerous as she says “something’s different” to Ed. At the end of the trailer, a demon says to Lorraine: “We’ve been waiting so patiently so patiently for you,” before leaping towards her.

The film is directed by Michael Chaves, who also directed the most recent Conjuring film, 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. He also led other movies in the franchise, like The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun II. James Wan, who directed the first two films, The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, will executive produce. Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick penned the script. Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Pirate Kingdom, The Beast Must Die) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Voyeurs) add to the cast.

The horror franchise has continually been a box office hit, grossing over $2 billion globally. The first one, released in 2013, made nearly $320 million worldwide from a $20 million budget.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to hit theaters on Imax Sept. 5.
