Netflix‘s upcoming A Different World sequel has found its first main cast members, after more than a month since the project received an official pilot order. The original sitcom was led by Jasmine Guy as Whitley and Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne. It served as a spin-off to NBC’s The Cosby Show, which was originally meant to follow Lisa Bonet’s character Denise in college. However, Bonet left the show after one season due to her pregnancy.

Who is joining the A Different World sequel’s cast?

Netflix has reportedly tapped Chibuikem Uche, Maleah Joi Moon, Cornell Young, Jordan Aaron Hall, Alijah Kai Higgins, and Kennedi McClure for the respective leading roles of Kojo, Deborah, Shaquille, Amir, Haggins, and Hazel. The sequel is expected to follow the story of Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter.

According to the previous report, the streaming platform is planning to shoot a pilot for the project this summer in June in Atlanta, to test the show’s tone and see the chemistry of its potential cast. The move is rare for Netflix, with this being one of the only pilot orders its ever given out to a comedy series.

The project hails from writer/executive producer Felicia Pride and executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood. Prior to the sequel, all Allen, Werner, Prince-Bythewood, and Bythewood previously worked on the original sitcom, which lasted for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. The comedy also starred Mary Alice, Darryl M. Bell, Sinbad, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer, Glynn Turman, Marisa Tomei, and more.
