Inside Michelle & Barack Obama’s Unexpected Bedroom Struggles

Michelle Obama is once again addressing the realities of her personal life, offering fresh insight into her relationship with former President Barack Obama.

In a recent podcast appearance, she shed light on some of their everyday challenges as a couple, all while rumors of an impending divorce continue to swirl.

During a candid chat on “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” Michelle revealed one of the more relatable struggles in her marriage: controlling the thermostat.

“Sometimes I get in the bed, and I’m freezing. Other times, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, take my skin off,'” she said per Radar Online, referring to how drastically her body temperature fluctuates at night.

Describing the situation as “a battle with a partner,” Michelle explained, “He’s always cold and I’m like, ‘Do not touch [the thermostat].'”

The light-hearted conflict intensifies when she wakes up in the middle of the night, suspecting her husband’s interference.

Michelle Obama would then ask, “Did you touch the thermostat? You touched it, didn’t you?”

According to her, Barack is usually quick to deny it. “I didn’t, I swear,” he would tell her.

The former First Lady prefers the room to be about 68 degrees and jokingly noted that her fix for the situation is telling Barack to wear socks instead.

Michelle also used the podcast to reflect on her newfound independence since leaving the White House.

She expressed a desire to reclaim ordinary experiences, saying, “I want to try to do normal things… I want to feel like I’m by myself.”

She added, “I’m driving a little bit more by myself… in the car by myself.”

Michelle noted that life as First Lady didn’t offer much personal freedom. “The eight years, even beyond, the stakes were so high. And Barack and I, our team, we felt like we didn’t have room to get anything wrong,” she shared.

Now, in her 60s, Michelle feels less pressure to be perfect. “I can be loose. I can stutter. I can misspeak sometimes, even though I’m sure that will make the news.”

She concluded: “I just feel like there’s room to breathe. And maybe some of that is my age. Maybe some of that is that now that I’m in my 60s, what more do I have to prove?. Let’s just live. Let’s just talk.”

This is not the first time Michelle Obama has opened up about her life after the White House.

Earlier this month, she appeared on Jay Shetty’s podcast, “On Purpose,” and revealed she had started using therapy to help her adjust to the “next phase” of life.

She shared, “At this phase of my life, I’m in therapy right now because I’m transitioning, you know?”

The mother of two explained that she is now an “empty nester” as her daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama, aren’t around. She said, “I’m 60 years old, I’ve finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact, I’m an empty nester, my girls are in — you know, they’ve been launched!”

Michelle also said that therapy is helping her to unlearn behavior that hindered her in the past.

She noted, “So, I’m getting that tune-up for this next phase because I believe this is a whole ‘nother phase in life for me. And I now have the wisdom to know, let me go get some coaching while I’m doing it.”

Michelle Obama’s recent revelations come amid constant rumors linking her and Barack Obama to a divorce.

She noted that her newfound independence since leaving the White House led to rumors of marital trouble.

Michelle said, “That’s the thing that we women struggle with — disappointing people. I mean, so much so that this year, people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself.”

According to her, people quickly assumed she and her husband were divorcing. She added, “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.”

Michelle also said it was disappointing that women were labeled as negative and horrible if they didn’t fit into a particular stereotype.
