El Funky, a Cuban pro-Donald Trump rapper, is speaking out after claiming he has “30 days to leave the country” or be deported to his homeland of Cuba.

On May 8, the Cuban rapper, born Eliéxer Márquez Duany, took to his Instagram with a message for his fans. He told them that he was at risk of being deported from the United States of America.
This despite once being hailed as a voice of freedom by several American politicians (like Marco Rubio and Mario Díaz-Balart) and being a supporter of the current administration’s president, Donald Trump. The artist also notably helped create the Grammy-winning protest anthem “Patria y Vida” in 2023. The song rebukes Cuba’s communist regime and sparked the largest anti-government demonstrations on the island in decades.

Cuban Rapper El Funky Denied Permanent Residency Under 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act
In 2021, El Funky fled his homeland of Cuba and settled in Miami, Florida. He then applied for permanent residency under the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act. In 2017, under the Barack Obama administration, the act was amended to prohibit exemption for Cuban migrants who enter the country without a visa.
Earlier this month, El Funky’s permanent residency application was denied. In his May 8 post, from Spanish translated to English, he wrote:
“I have 30 days to leave the country or I will be deported, I ask all my Cuban brothers who know my anti-communist trajectory and the congressmen of this country that more than ever I need your support today. Greetings and blessings!”

Cuban Trump-Supporting Rapper El Funky Updates Fans After Claiming He’s Facing Deportation
Accompanying the post were two photos. One photo showed him holding up a cardboard sign that read, “SOS Cuba.” Another photo showed him with another sign hanging from his neck that read, “Patria y Vida ((mother/home)land and life).”
On Saturday (May 22), the rapper then shared a new update for his fans. In a screenshot from his Notes, he wrote (in Spanish translated to English):
“To all my brothers and followers, I want to give you good news: thanks to my legal team, my residency case has been opened. I have great faith in this government and the legal process. Also, regarding the rumors and fake news circulating on social media, we clarify that El Funky will not be deported. Thank you all!!”
Despite his current situation of possible deportation, El Funky appears to remain an avid supporter of Donald Trump. Per the Havana Times, El Funky says, “If I could vote, I would have voted for Trump.” He adds, “I’m not going to shut up. Going back [to Cuba] puts my life in danger.”
