A Washington family says a peaceful evening turned terrifying after a former DoorDash driver showed up at their home demanding a cash tip—and pulled a gun.
Anthony Volino, a grandfather from Vancouver, Washington, told KGW News he was enjoying dinner with his grandchildren when a man knocked on the door claiming to be the same DoorDash driver who delivered groceries the night before. Though the family had already tipped the driver through the app, the man was now demanding more—this time, in cash.
“He was loud and smelled like alcohol,” Volino recalled. “He kept saying, ‘I want my tip.’ For a split second, I thought about giving the guy a couple of dollars. But when he said it again, I told him, ‘You need to leave.’”

From Demand to Danger: Driver Allegedly Armed
The situation quickly escalated. Volino’s daughter, who had placed the $100 grocery order, explained the tip had already been submitted digitally. Still, the driver—identified later as Robert Delehant—refused to back down. Volino stepped outside to confront the man. As the two began to scuffle, the grandfather noticed something dangerous: a handgun on Delehant’s waistband.
“He tripped up against my wife’s car,” Volino told reporters. “As he was on the ground, I leaned over and cleared the handgun.”
Police Respond, DoorDash Reacts Swiftly
Authorities from the Vancouver Police Department arrived on the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Delehant was arrested and charged with felony harassment, DUI, and assault.
A spokesperson from DoorDash released a statement following the arrest:
“What happened was unacceptable and the Dasher involved was immediately deactivated. We have reached out to local law enforcement to support their investigation in any way we can.”
