EXCLUSIVE: Sources are telling us that the Midsommar and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy actor Jack Reynor is joining the second season of Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent opposite Rachel Brosnahan.
While Season 1 was based on Scott Turow’s 1987 bestselling novel, which was also adapted into a 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford, Season 2 is based on Jo Murray’s debut legal thriller Dissection of a Murder which is set to hit shelves in 2026.
While Apple has logline under wraps, the Pan Macmillan blurb for Dissection of a Murder reads “When Leila Reynolds is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.”
We understand that there are other leading male roles that could be written into the series.
Irish actor Reynor is also starring in the next season of the Prime Video series Citadel, and is reteaming for the fourth time with filmmaker John Carney on his next movie Power Ballad. Reynor has appeared in leading roles in Transformers: Age of Extinction and Carney’s Sing Street. Last year he was part of the ensemble cast of Netflix’s hit series The Perfect Couple.
Reynor is repped by WME, Range Media Partners, Sloane Offer, and 2PM Sharp.
Season 1 of Presumed Innocent followed Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich in a story about a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime. Ford also played Sabich in the 1990 movie, which grossed $221 million-plus worldwide, a late summer tentpole at the time.
Presumed Innocent comes from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Kelley serves as showrunner on Season 2 alongside Erica Lipez (We Were the Lucky Ones, The Morning Show). Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot. Kelley executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions alongside Matthew Tinker and Lipez. Dustin Thomason also executive produces. In addition to starring, Brosnahan will serve as executive producer. Gyllenhaal, who starred in the first season, executive produces under his Nine Stories banner. Turow co-executive produces.
Presumed Innocent‘s first season earned four Primetime Emmy nominations including for Gyllenhaal as Outstanding Actor Limited/Anthology series, Peter Sarsgaard and Bill Camp in the Supporting Actor Limited/Anthology series category, and Ruth Negga for Supporting Actress Limited/Anthology series.
Apple didn’t respond to request for comment on Reynor’s casting.
