Alternative Press teamed up with Militarie Gun for exclusive vinyl of God Save the Gun, limited to 300 copies. Head to the AP Shop to grab yours.

It’s only been two years since Militarie Gun released their breakout debut album, Life Under the Gun, but if you know their frontman Ian Shelton, they never stay stagnant for long. Today, the alt-rock crew just announced their sophomore follow-up, God Save the Gun, out Oct. 17 via Loma Vista Recordings.

“I’m well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album,” Shelton says. “But I’m fine with it, if not provoking it. Over the past couple years, as I spoke about addiction from the perspective of someone affected by it, I became the one struggling with it. There’s a farcical logic to entering a situation, fully knowing the consequences, and doing it anyway — but that’s where my head was when I started leaning on drinking.”

Made with Riley MacIntyre, God Save the Gun includes last year’s anxiety ballad “Thought You Were Waving” and their latest single “B A D I D E A,” which comes with a video directed by Shelton. “I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting,” he adds. “This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done, and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’”

Following a show with Gorilla Biscuits and Riot Fest in September, Militarie Gun will go on a short headlining tour across the West Coast. They’ll be supported by Death Lens, MILLY, Angel Du$t, and Fleshwater on select dates. See the full routing here.
