Reba McEntire’s ‘Take-Charge Character’ Spills To ‘The Voice’

The Country singer’s reportedly overbearing attitude is making some of her colleagues and the show producers uncomfortable, and wondering if two captains are in the show’s boat.

Reba McEntire is currently mourning the loss of her stepson and Kelly Clarkson’s estranged husband, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away from cancer earlier in the month.

The singer’s presence for the 28th season of the singing show is gradually becoming an eyesore for her co-workers, who reportedly complain of her excessive need for control. 

A source close to the situation explained that while it might not be an intentional move from her end, her habit of having an opinion on everything has gotten on people’s nerves.

Getting the legend to be in the new season did not come easy, as the bosses reportedly had to do a lot of convincing due to her hectic schedule. Now that she is in the game, McEntire has embraced the spotlight, almost refusing to share her space with anyone.

“Her fellow judges like Reba, but she’s cocky and a take-charge character. It’s always all about her – whether she intends it to be or not,” an insider explained. Per RadarOnline, the source added that the judges are going into the new season very wary of McEntire potentially becoming another boss.

Filming for the NBC hit show reportedly began in early July, but things are moving under quite a tense atmosphere. McEntire will appear alongside her industry colleagues like Niall Horan, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg, calling the shots for contestants on the new season. 

McEntire has had quite the history with the show, including serving as coach from seasons 24- 26, a Battle Advisor for season 1, and a Mega Mentor in season 23.

The reality show star has also shown the fans what life feels like on set when she shared an exquisite image of herself sitting in the famous red spinning chair, where everyone’s fate gets decided.

McEntire expressed how happy she felt to be on the show, even borrowing a phrase from her new project titled “Happy’s Place.”

The actress worked alongside her former daughter-in-law, Horan, Shelton, and Chance the Rapper on season 23 of “The Voice” as a Mega Mentor. She advised contestants who advanced into the knockout rounds to give their best.

She eventually filled Shelton’s big shoes for Season 24 after he announced his retirement. McEntire came on the show in 2011, appearing as a battle advisor for Shelton’s team for the first-ever season of the show. 

Before finding herself in Shelton’s former spot, McEntire had been offered the golden spot of a coaching position for the first season. After she rejected the offer, Shelton stepped in as a coach.

Usually referred to as “The Queen of Country Music,” the singer is a three-time Grammy Award winner with multiple awards from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association. 

The media personality’s colleagues on “The Voice” are not the only ones dealing with the heat of her controlling attitude. Her relationship with her partner of nearly five years, Rex Linn, has become tense since they began filming the new season of the “Happy’s Place” sitcom.

As shared by The Blast, McEntire’s behavior on set makes the whole experience less worthwhile for Linn, who now has his girlfriend bossing him around. Their status as co-workers on set has blurred the lines between their professional and personal relationships.

Judging by McEntire’s strong personality of barking orders and giving dictates, Linn struggles to keep up, almost as if that was not what he signed up for. 

In the words of a source: “That red hair is no lie – Reba is high-spirited. And Rex is a headstrong character, even though he doesn’t look it. He’s very proud and doesn’t like her bossing him around in public.”

Linn and McEntire began dating in 2020 during the pandemic after their shared interests, values, and family life strengthened their bond.

The actress reacted to Blackstock’s death after his protracted struggle with cancer with a heartfelt post on social media. McEntire uploaded several pictures of herself and the music managers alongside a lengthy caption stating that her stepson “is in eternal peace in God’s presence.”

As noted by The Blast, McEntire gushed about Blackstock and the time they spent together, stating that no one was like him. She promised that his legacy and laughter would be carried on by his loved ones.

“Rest in peace, cowboy. Happy trails to you till we meet again,” the actress concluded, as her friends lifted her with encouraging words and wishes in the comments.

McEntire and Blackstock’s father married in 1989 and stayed together for decades until their divorce in 2015. Despite the split, the actress noted that her bond with Blackstock is forever, and she considers him family.

She even spoke about his divorce from Clarkson in 2021, declaring that she will never resort to picking sides between them because she loves them almost equally.
