Teyana Taylor On The Hook For $70K To Iman Shumpert

The NBA star filed his scathing allegations against his former partner earlier this year, months after the 2024 finalization of their divorce. He accused her of breaking the terms of their settlement while she slammed him for leaking sealed divorce documents to the press.

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert tied the knot in October 2016, welcoming two daughters during their union. The actress and singer secretly filed for divorce in January 2023 before the former couple announced their separation in September. She has since moved on with rising Hollywood sensation Aaron Pierre.

According to new reports, Taylor lost the contempt of court battle with her ex-husband. She and Shumpert attended a hearing regarding the case on July 25 after accusing each other of violating the terms of their 2024 divorce settlement.

Shumpert successfully proved his allegations, which accused Taylor of breaking the clause in their settlement that banned them from discussing their divorce. He argued that she broke this rule by addressing their separation in an Instagram video in March.

The judge, per US Weekly, sided with Shumpert and found Taylor liable for contempt. She was ordered to pay her ex-husband $70,000 for legal fees, and her allegations against him were dismissed because she lacked sufficient evidence to prove Shumpert had leaked their divorce to the press.

Although the judge dismissed Taylor’s contempt allegations and her request for Shumpert to pay her legal fees, she successfully evaded his other accusation. Her former partner demanded she be found in contempt for allegedly violating their parenting agreement.

However, the judge did not find Taylor liable, and she was not punished. The contempt of court drama made waves in May, with The Blast reporting that Shumpert had demanded his ex-wife be imprisoned for up to 20 days alongside a $1,000 fine.

The basketball player implored the court to find her guilty of civil and criminal contempt, arguing that Taylor had negatively impacted his income by divulging their divorce judgment in a social media post. He stressed that she did so without consideration for him and their kids.

Besides the income he allegedly lost, Shumpert slammed Taylor for interfering with the parenting agreement. He claimed she intentionally stopped him from picking up their children by taking them out of school for no reason.

Shumpert stressed that this wasn’t the first time Taylor had allegedly interfered with his rights as a parent, accusing her of often disparaging him in front of their kids. “Such insults and criticism of Iman have caused the children to unjustly suffer stress and worry,” his allegations read.

The athlete added that Taylor’s alleged behavior placed their kids “in the self-imposed position of peacemaker between their parents.” On the other hand, the actress accused Shumpert of leaking their sealed divorce documents to the press and asked for his brief incarceration as punishment.

The contempt of court case follows Shumpert’s confessions about his divorce and feelings for his ex-wife. He admitted they had some “great years” during their marriage on the “Tap In With TT” podcast, noting he focused on the good rather than the bad.

“When I do something for the day, I’m doing that, and I can’t control what I can’t control. I can’t do nothing but you know see my babies and do my job–everything else just falls into place,” Shumpert explained. He added that he did not let the online criticisms get to him and focused on himself.

When asked if he was ready for another relationship after Taylor, Shumpert confessed that he needed to focus on his growth. He noted he fell in love at a young age and wished to spend more time alone than with someone else. “I need to get me right,” he declared, per HotNewHipHop.

While Shumpert was focused on growth, Taylor found love again with Hollywood’s newest heartthrob, Aaron Pierre. The couple sparked romance rumors on February 1, 2025, when the “Mufasa” star posted pictures of them at the Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala.

Weeks later, they turned heads after they were photographed at the American Black Film Festival Honors. The romance speculations continued in March at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, with Taylor and Pierre sharing pictures of themselves on their Instagram pages, respectively.

They continued flirting on social media before heating things up in a sultry music video for Taylor’s song “Long Time,” released on June 4. Days later, Taylor and Pierre finally confirmed they were dating during the actor’s 31st birthday bash, per PEOPLE.
