Return to Silent Hill has dropped its first teaser trailer, featuring two of the most well-known characters from the video game franchise: James Sunderland and Pyramid Head. The movie is the third entry in the Silent Hill film series, following 2006’s Silent Hill and 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation. It is an adaptation of Silent Hill 2 (2001), the second installment in the eponymous video game series from Konami.
What happens in the Return to Silent Hill teaser trailer?
The official teaser trailer for Return to Silent Hill shows James Sunderland, portrayed by Jeremy Irvine, arriving at a town called Silent Hill and encountering various monsters, including Pyramid Head. Christopher Gans directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider.
The logline for Return to Silent Hill reads, “When James receives a mysterious letter from his lost love Mary, he is drawn to Silent Hill—a once-familiar town now consumed by darkness. As he searches for her, James faces monstrous creatures and unravels a terrifying truth that will push him to the edge of his sanity.”
Besides Irvine, the cast of Return to Silent Hill includes Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary Crane / Maria / Moth Mary, Evie Templeton as Laura, and Pearse Egan as Eddie Dombrowski. The movie has a 105-minute runtime.
Notably, James is also the protagonist of the video game Silent Hill 2 and makes cameo appearances in other video game entries in the franchise, including Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Silent Hill: Downpour, and Silent Hill: Book of Memories. Additionally, he appears in Dead by Daylight: Chapter XVI – Silent Hill and the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2.
Meanwhile, Pyramid Head first appeared in the Silent Hill 2 video game, but was part of both movies preceding Return to Silent Hill.
Davis Films and Hassell Free Productions produced the feature. Cineverse will release it in US theaters through its Bloody Disgusting label and with collaborative partner Iconic Events Releasing. Return to Silent Hill debuts on January 23, 2026.
