Although not admissible in court, a lie detector test speaks volumes on this episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Emily hosts the women for a Persian New Year party in hopes of new beginnings and finding the truth.
Gretchen takes matters into her own hands when she goes directly to the source, Kiki Monique, and Katie finds herself in serious hot water with the group, despite the debatable accuracy of lie detectors…
Shannon takes her dad, Gene the Machine, out for his 96th birthday. Despite his age, Gene still shoots his shot with the ladies, so it’s only fitting that Shannon would get him a Marilyn Monroe impersonator to sing him the birthday song.
Shannon, on the other hand, claims to be content being alone. She does fill him in on Tamra’s apology and her cautious response, but let’s be honest, Gene is more interested in the dating prospects at Javier’s.
Gretchen meets with Gina, and a surprise guest enters the scene. Kiki Monique has been called in to testify, I mean, clarify, just what exactly was told to her by Katie. Gretchen feels “side-swiped with the information” that is coming out, especially because Katie denied ever even talking to Kiki!
Kiki confirms that she did, in fact, speak to Katie, and Katie told her that Gretchen said she went to the hospital and was drugged the night of naked wasted. Mic drop. Gretchen cannot believe this, considering she has had a lousy relationship with Tamra for years, and if she wanted this to come out, she would have used it against Tamra long ago!
Kiki goes on to say that Gina was a topic with Katie, too. Katie had said she wanted to promote and wear Asian designers on the show; however, according to Gina, Katie did not really follow through. And so when Gina asked Katie if she was wearing an Asian designer, Katie took it as a snarky dig… which Gina admits to.
Gina believes that Katie is being performative, but luckily, Kiki does not write the stories Katie tells her. When Kiki leaves, Gretchen becomes upset, worried that now she should be scared of Katie and what she may do next.
Heather is grateful to have all her kids home in the rented apartment — of course, the penthouse is more for “sexy time.” They play a lousy game of poker and chat about the Beverly Hills house. The Joshes are not selling the place as fast as they anticipated, but Heather is hopeful. Until then, she will just wait to see where her kids land and go from there.
Emily is celebrating the Persian New Year, even though she is not Persian (only through marriage). Emily is not sure of all the cultural traditions, but she is looking forward to getting the ladies together. The new year represents new beginnings, and we all know this group could stand that!
When Gina arrives, Emily shares that she is planning on surprising the women with lie detector tests to put Katie’s money where her mouth is. (Doesn’t seem like a lie detector test is the best thing to kick off the Persian new beginnings party, but alas, what do I know?) Gina is feeling a bit awkward, as she has yet to tell Emily about what happened with Kiki Monique, since that is Gretchen’s story to tell.
Before the others arrive, Heather tells Emily and Gina about her meetup with Tamra. Tamra is mad because she believes the group should have reached out to see if she was okay. Gina is sick of Tamra playing victim in a situation that she doesn’t remember…
Katie is awkward with the girls, since she knows she is on the outs with everyone. However, she is shocked at Gretchen’s turn on her. She believes that Gretchen should be thanking her for covering up her lies!
In preparation for the lie detector test, which they do not know about yet, Emily has the ladies write down anonymous burning questions that they have about one another. In truth, these questions are what will be used for the lie detector.
No one is sure if Tamra is coming. Shannon thinks it is ridiculous that Tamra is mad at everyone when SHE was the one who walked away, and it seems like everyone is sick of her sh*t. When Tamra actually arrives, Emily explains she did not check on her because she had bigger issues going on with her son.
Gina embraces Tamra, which sets Shannon off. Tamra goes on to tell Emily and Gina that she does not know how to process emotion, and Emily promises that “today will be a pivotal day with this group” when it comes to Katie.
Speaking of Katie, she feels sick at the party, and this is before she even knows about the lie detector tests. Emily announces the big surprise, and it all makes sense why no alcohol is served at the party! Tamra, the self-proclaimed “truth teller,” is ready to take this on… Shannon not so much.
Gina is stoked to expose the lies and get to the bottom of the truth. The questions start out pretty easy — until they don’t. It stinks that we don’t see all of the answers to these burning questions, and I would pay to see the unseen footage.
Shannon is having some serious anxiety about this, much like Katie. The split screen shows Gretchen and Katie getting asked the same questions, and the way they give opposite responses is rich. Katie is tired of “being the fall person for all of Gretchen’s lies,” but Gretchen is ready to be proven innocent.
When the results come in, Emily passes tough questions about Heather, and Gina is shown as truthful when it comes to Heather’s real estate connections. Tamra fails when it comes to being on the spectrum of autism, and Jenn passes questions about Tamra and Katie, but she fails when it comes to Ryan. She reacted greatly to having fears about marrying Ryan, which is telling.
Heather’s truth is she would rather be a housewife of Beverly Hills because the commute is closer (suuuure), but she failed when asked about calling the paparazzi on herself. Katie looks vindicated!
Gretchen passes all the burning questions, including not telling Katie and Jenn she was drugged AND not going to the hospital after naked wasted. However, this causes Tamra and Shannon to raise eyebrows, since Gretchen told them she went. Either way, Gretchen’s entire test came back truthful…unlike Katie’s.
Katie failed the entire thing and did the worst out of everyone, but she is hellbent that she is not lying when it comes to Kiki. She tries to pull Jenn into her mess and points out that Slade called Matt to cover for Gretchen. Gretchen explodes, letting Katie know she met with Kiki.
Katie apparently took Gretchen’s words of “I felt like I should have gone to the hospital” and twisted them. Jenn is realizing who Katie really is, and not even a lie detector test believes Katie at this point!
Gina asks Katie why she tried to make her out as a racist for her Asian designer comment. Katie does not think Gina meant for it to come out as racially insensitive, but it did… and it hurt her feelings. Emily dismisses Katie and sends her home.
Katie wishes Jenn backed her up, but Jenn is over it. Jenn tells the women that Katie told her she didn’t meet with bloggers… except that was a LIE. And Gretchen shares that Slade DID call Matt, but only to ask wtf Katie was doing and saying. Katie is not sure if she will ever be with this group of women again… so much for new beginnings.
