Shilo Sanders Speaks Out After Being Cut By Buccaneers: The Setback
Former Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders didn’t hear his name called in the 2025 NFL draft, but that didn’t stop him from chasing his dream. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
On Monday, the Buccaneers waived Sanders. He cleared waivers and officially entered the free-agent market. The 24-year-old had one of the wildest preseason moments after being ejected from the final game against the Buffalo Bills for throwing a punch that connected with tight end Zach Davidson. That slip-up, paired with the team’s final roster cuts, had him on the outside looking in.
Still, Shilo didn’t fold. Instead, he used his platform to let the world know he’s far from finished.
Shilo Sanders Drops YouTube Video After Release
On Thursday night, Sanders uploaded a raw video to his YouTube channel titled “WAIVED By The Buccaneers…What Now?” The clip gave fans an inside look at how he’s processing the setback.“As you can see by the title of this video, I got waived by the Buccaneers,” Sanders said. “Regardless of anything that’s ever happened to me, I always came out on top.”
Instead of bitterness, Shilo showed gratitude.
“My experience with the Buccaneers has been nothing but positive. The city, my teammates, my coaches—everyone has shown me mad love and support, and I’ll always be grateful for that,” Sanders continued.
“I had an amazing time here in Tampa.”
That tone of thankfulness stood out. In a league where cuts happen daily, Shilo is keeping his head high and staying focused.
Looking Ahead: Shilo Sanders Keeps The Door Open
Even though Tampa closed one chapter, Shilo is leaving the book open. He said he’s already been in talks with his agent about next steps.
“We’re waiting on the next opportunity,” he said. That could mean another NFL team gives him a call. But Shilo also made it clear that football isn’t his only lane.“If that’s the NFL, cool, but God’s blessed me with a lot of talents beyond just playing football,” Sanders explained. “Every athlete hits a point where the game wraps up for them. And I’m not saying that’s what’s happening now…Basically, every athlete reaches this moment where they find themselves without that game of football.”
Those words hit deep, showing his mindset is bigger than just one roster spot. Shilo isn’t clinging to football like it’s his only lifeline—he’s embracing whatever God has lined up for him.
Family, Faith, and Gratitude: Shilo Sanders’ Final Message
Before wrapping his video, Shilo shouted out his support system and the Bucs for giving him a shot.“I appreciate all the love and support,” he said. “Especially thank you to the Buccaneers for giving me this opportunity.”
That’s real. Shilo’s journey proves that even when life throws you a curveball, faith and focus keep you grounded. With Deion Sanders as his father and role model, Shilo has already seen what perseverance looks like.
He’s not done. Whether the next step is with another NFL team, media, or something else entirely, Shilo Sanders is walking into his future with confidence.
