Exactly What Went Down:
According to the park, the drama started around 5 p.m. when a boy was reported missing, getting separated from his parents. While the park staff was searching for the kid, he somehow got into a fenced-off area for the monorail.
Park officials said the ride was closed and barricaded, so the kid was just chilling at the station for about 20 minutes before he decided to take a stroll on the track.
That’s when a sharp-eyed park guest spotted him and jumped into action. The video, which went viral, shows a true hero climbing a nearby building to get on the track. He then scooped the boy up and, with the help of another person below, lowered him to safety. Talk about a clutch move!
Hersheypark staff quickly responded, and by 5:28 p.m., the boy was back with his family and unharmed. The park released a statement thanking their guests for being on the lookout and their team for the quick response, saying they’re all about keeping people safe.
This scary incident comes just a little over a month after a tragic accident at the park’s wave pool, where a 9-year-old girl drowned. Police ruled her death an accident and said the park had all their safety standards in check.
