New Orleans singer August Alsina and his rumored boyfriend Zu have confirmed their relationship as Zu shuts down rumors of being groomed and preyed on due to their age difference.

Fans first learned about August Alsina’s boyfriend Zu back in November 2022. At the time, August appeared on the reality series ‘Surreal Life.’ During his season’s finale, he seemingly came out and introduced “his love.”
During the clip August Alsina shared a few words wrapping his time on the show. He then revealed a mystery person on-screen. He said:
“What do you know, love showed up, but in a new way. I want to share that and honor the person that I love and that loves me back and teaches me so much about love and healing. I want to do that in front of the world because it defies all constructs that one would say love is suppose to be or love should look like.”

August then welcomed “his love” with open arms. The clip went viral and social media started losing it. Some fans noticed the R&B singer had actually posted the mystery man before and that he’s an artist as well. The pair kept things relatively private for a while, until images of them started popping up more on social media.
In July 2024, August Alsina had social media buzzing again and wondering about his sexuality. At the time, he appeared on Nick Cannon’s ‘Counsel Culture’ show — where he insisted that to him that “love is discovery.”
By January 2025, August Alsina broke his silence on a viral video of him and his then-labeled “close friend” Zu. Zu captioned the video, “On God, I’m going [to] climb this [n***a] soon as we get in the crib.” The post sent social media into a frenzy, assuming this was the couple confirming their relationship. However, the two still remained silent and let social media assume what they wanted to.

August Alsina And Zu Confirm Relationship And Slam Grooming Rumors Over Age Difference
Following their recent club hosting in Atlanta, August Alsina, who is 32, shared photos of him and Zu, who is reportedly 22, stating they had known each other and been locked in for 5 years. Critics on social media started doing some digging and began slinging grooming and predator allegations and labels at August.
On Monday (September 1), Zu — who has never addressed anything online since August introduced him to the public as his “love” on ‘Surreal Life’ in November 2022 — broke his silence to confirm the relationship rumors and allegations of grooming. August also confirmed the relationship and defended himself against the predator claims.
Zu took to his social media accounts and said, “Hope this clears up any confusion,” as he lengthily wrote:
“This my first and only time addressing this, I don’t give a f**k about any external validation whatsoever. I don’t need anyone’s likeness, But I’m a grown a** man, with his own mind and free will…if I ever do anything it’s because I want to do it. l met August when I was already of age, an adult. Aug didn’t even know me when I was 16 or 17…not sure where that came from.. yea there’s a slight age difference but y’all pick and chooses who to judge when it comes to that.
We will have known each other for 5 years toward the end of the year, so he’s speaking in future terms because that’s where we plan to make it. I know I’m not an internet person and prioritize my peace before anything, and protect my relationship, because the media at times can seep in and tarnish beautiful dynamics.
August is my boyfriend, and we’re happy with each other, simple…But I can see how being quiet, and trying to protect something of value to you, can allow some people to spin the narrative and create a bunch of different scenarios which aren’t true. Aug gives me a GREAT life, & I’m thankful. What y’all don’t know is, that I run this relationship…l call the shots, August just shows up and supports me in whatever I want to do. He supports my dream, He IS A DREAM! Nothing is ever forced on either end, hope this clears up any confusion…stay fly.”
August Alsina agreed with Zu in several posts on Instagram and X. Reposting Zu’s lengthy post on his Instagram Story, August said, “My bul be chillin, all mysterious [and] sht. But I loveeee when the Yung God speaks!!”
On X, he wrote, “Hey @Grok, pls sum this up because the Yung God has spoke! Grok: The message seems to be a collective gathering, letting them know to play somewhere, where it’s safe… cus playing w/ them AIN’T IT!! & that’s on the Ancestral Lineage who comes thru w/ a vengeance!”
