It looks like DC fans will; want to pay close attention to Peacemaker because it’s going to tie directly into Man of Tomorrow. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been hinting at how tightly woven his new DC Universe will be, but now he’s made it clear that the two projects are linked in a big way.
During a recent Peacemaker watch-along on Threads, Gunn responded to a fan who asked if watching an R-rated show was necessary to fully understand what’s happening in PG-13 movies like Superman and Man of Tomorrow. He responded:
“As I’ve said countless times, you can watch every project by itself, of course (just like you can watch Peacemaker by itself or watch Superman without seeing Creature Commandos). But Man of Tomorrow and [Peacemaker season 2] are very, very connected.”
While the first few episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 don’t give much away, it sounds like the back half of the season will be laying the foundation for where Man of Tomorrow picks up.
Gunn is clearly playing the long game with his “Gods and Monsters” slate, and these connections could be the first real signs of how his DCU will differ from what came before.
The filmmaker also confirmed another key detail about the upcoming Superman movie. Gunn revealed that Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane will play a major part in Man of Tomorrow, saying she has an “important” role in the story.
So, while Gunn is saying you don’t have to watch Peacemaker to understand what’s going on, it sounds to me like it’s essential viewing for what comes next.
