People say a lot about New Yorkers, but when danger strikes, they’re always the first to help. A Bronx woman proved that after she sprinted into action when she saw a building on fire.

A woman who goes by @sammmmanthaaa_ on TikTok posted the heart-stopping moments she saw a building in Highbridge engulfed in flames on the roof. Instead of waiting for help, she ran to every floor and knocked on every door to alert residents that the building was on fire.
The woman can be seen sprinting up and down flights of stairs as she frantically tells people to leave. Some residents can be seen thanking her while exiting the building. “I just ran in to try and save everyone there. People were outside recording not doing anything,” she said in the comments section of her video.
In an emotional follow-up clip, the woman, who actually lives across the street from the burning building, tearfully said it was “God” who told her to run inside. She also wrote in her caption that she believes she fractured her wrist but is ultimately relieved she was able to get a lot of people out.
Sadly, families who lived in the Highbridge building are now left wondering where they will sleep following the massive fire that destroyed their apartments.
When Did The Fire Break Out?
The building, located on the 1300 block of Nelson Avenue, caught fire around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The FDNY says the fire started on the seventh floor. However, it was not immediately clear how the flames ignited.
As of now, the American Red Cross is working to help displaced families as fire marshals continue their investigation.
While people are praying for the families who lost their homes, TikTok users are praising the woman for her bravery.
One TikTok user wrote,
“Awww baby you’re so brave. Def your adrenaline coming down. You made it to ALL FLOORS you’re amazing. Now plsss go take care of yourself.” Another reacted, “You don’t even live there???? OMG!! You’re the kind of friend who carries another’s burdens God bless you obedience.” A third said, “You saved soooooooo many lives God bless you!!”
