Comedian Heather McMahan issued an apology to pro golfer Rory McIlroy after she shouted expletive-laden comments during the Ryder Cup tournament.
“Heather has extended an apology to Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup Europe,” a spokesperson for the PGA of America told BBC Sport in a Sunday, September 28, statement. “[She] has stepped down from hosting the first tee of the Ryder Cup.”
McMahan, 38, was tapped as the master of ceremonies for the golf tournament, where she allegedly encouraged the crowd to heckle McIlroy, 36, during his tee time on Saturday, September 27.
In social media footage shared from the greens, McMahan appeared to start a “F*** You, Rory” chant that spectators then repeated.
Mcllroy, for his part, hit back at the hecklers and shouted, “F*** you, f*** you, f*** you!”
McMahan has not further addressed the alleged incident. Us Weekly has reached out for comment.
McMahan previously shared her support for McIlroy during the Ryder Cup during a Thursday, September 25, interview with Instagram account “The Smylie Show.”
“I’m happy to be here,” she said, where she was asked to discuss McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood playing Collin Morikawa and Harris English. “I’m loyal to our team [as Americans], but I do think Tommy and Rory might take that.”
After resigning from the rest of her duties, McMahan has been finding solace in college football.
“Hotty toddy,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories later on Saturday, watching her alma mater the University of Mississippi’s football game against Louisiana State University. “Rebs did it today! Hotty toddy!!!”
McMahan shared a follow-up video of her celebration.
“Guys, I’m having a glass of wine. It’s been a f***ing day,” she quipped in the Instagram Story footage, adding a beard filter to her post. “But, we’re hotty toddy. Come through! OK, Jeff [my husband] is very upset about Penn State, but I’m wearing white for the white-out. I’m trying to support my man’s team.”
She concluded, “I’m having a nice glass of pinot noir. I hope you’re doing well.”
After graduating from Ole Miss, McMahan has remained a fervent supporter of the university and their athletic teams.
“I had the best four years of my life. Shout out to the University of Mississippi,” McMahan quipped on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2024. “I loved it. My college experience was out of this world. Even being from the South ‘cause I grew up in Atlanta, I didn’t know anything about Mississippi.”
She continued, “The reason I ended up at Ole Miss is because it was the only college that let me in. … I visited Alabama [and] I’m in Tuscaloosa at the Sigma Chi house. I watched a man snort cocaine off a chicken tender and I called my daddy and I said, ‘I’m going to Ole Miss.’ I like to party, but this is another world.”
McMahan further explained to podcast host Alex Cooper that she “didn’t know anybody” when she moved in on campus for her freshman year.
“I did the sorority rush. I had the time of my life,” she said of joining the Delta Gamma organization. “I don’t know how I got into a good sorority, like, all the things just clicked, and [my husband and I own a home there now. I bought a house in Oxford. I go back all the time. I love it.”
