With the completion of The Batman II script, James Gunn is providing updates on a separate DCU project about the Caped Crusader.

Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, the co-chief of the Warner Bros. superhero subsidiary said he is pleased with how The Brave and the Bold is shaping up.

“The Brave and the Bold script, I like where we are,” the Superman helmer said, noting, however, that the movie is still subject to change amid development.

As previously reported, the standalone project — based on comic book writer Grant Morrison’s take on the Gotham City protector — will follow the Dark Knight and his son, Damien Wayne (of whose existence he’s unaware), as Robin. Andy Muschietti is set to direct the pic from a script by an undisclosed writer.

Earlier this summer, Gunn said, “Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”

As the early production process moves along, attention turns, of course, to casting.

“No, I think you have to wait to see the movie,” the Peacemaker creator responded when asked if this iteration of Batman will be older as a father figure. “Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with [Damien’s] parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it — Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to … Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman.”

Gunn continued, “I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth.”

With the expanding DCU, other projects in the pipeline include a Viola Davis-starring Waller series, spinoff show Lanterns, Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow and Supergirl with Milly Alcock. As Gunn told Deadline recently, there is no plan for a third season of Peacemaker.
