A Steam game released back in March is currently free, and has been free since its release, however, it’s also about to be delisted. To this end, those who want to grab the free Steam game will need to act fast. And according to user reviews, it is certainly worth a spot in your library. On top of this, it is also listed as “Playable” on Steam Deck.
The PC game in question is Pathologic 3: Quarantine. As of September 23, developer Ice-Pick Lodge relayed word that the game was being delisted “in a couple of weeks.” Right now, it is still available, but this is presumably going to end sometime this week. Why is a game only released back in March being delisted? Well, it is a prologue to Pathologic 3, which is set to release later this year.

Since its release, Pathologic 3: Quarantine has received 1,319 user reviews, 88% of which are positive. This gives the PC game a “Very Positive” rating, the second best rating a game can earn on Steam. Now, it being free certainly helps with this rating, however, it also removes the barrier to entry, which means drawing in more players who may not even be that interested in it. To this end, we have seen Steam games been made free for a limited time in the past, and their user review score has actually worsened.
As for the game itself, it is a narrative-driven adventure set in a small town that has been ravaged by a mysterious plague and where a young doctor is searching for immortality. As noted, it serves as a prologue to the upcoming Pathologic 3, which itself is a sequel to 2019’s Pathologic 2 and 2005’s Pathologic. The 20-year-old series is obviously not the best-known, most mainstream series, but it is a bit of a cult-hit and has found a hardcore, loyal audience, hence why Ice-Pick Lodge has been able to make three games with it.
If this free Steam game doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are other options available at the moment. For example, there is a new free Steam game just released that has a 100% user review score, with the added bonus that it has some serious old-school Ratchet & Clank vibes.
