EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-nominated filmmaker Sonja O’Hara (Doomsday) and writer-director Adam Hoelzel (Tender) are teaming up to co-direct Snare, a sci-fi thriller which they co-wrote and are aiming to film this winter in Los Angeles.
The feature is executive-produced by Independent Spirit Award–winner Corey Moosa (Margin Call) under the banner A Group of Ferrets, alongside company partners David Hopwood (Power) and Michael K. Dwyer (Hanky Panky).
A Tribeca Film Festival–backed feature that participated in the 2025 Tribeca Creators Market, Snare “follows Ro (O’Hara), a brilliant but unraveling mycologist, and her reckless ex, Jax, as they turn to a radical new drug designed to erase their attraction to toxic partners.”
Casting is currently underway with Rachel Imbriglio and Walter Ware of Brigs / Ware Casting. Imbriglio’s work includes 9-1-1, American Horror Story, and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
Producers include O’Hara, Hoelzel, and Mars of Besties Make Movies, with additional executive-producers including Calvin Roszak, Raechel Zarzynski, Nikki Skelly, and Omar Sharif Jr.
O’Hara made her directorial debut on Tubi pic Root Letter, starring Danny Ramirez, before directing the Lionsgate horror movie, Mid-Century (Peacock), starring Stephan Lang and Bruce Dern. Her upcoming feature Cottagecore is produced by Peter Phok of A24’s X trilogy.
Hoelzel has developed projects for Bad Robot, Atlas Entertainment, and Warner Bros. His directorial debut, Tender, starring Jess Weixler, David Koechner, Jesse Garcia, and O’Hara, recently wrapped production. He is also developing his screenplay Homestead with XYZ Films.
A Group of Ferrets was founded in 2023 by Moosa, Hopwood, and Dwyer, former production and development executives at AtmosphereMM (300) and Cinelou Films (Cake).
Hoelzel is repped by UTA and Range Media Partners, and O’Hara by Verve, Gotham Group, Park Artists Group, and Fox Rothschild.
