Victoria Beckham Finally Addresses Her Moody Reputation

The fashion icon joked that she is usually smiling on the inside, but fans never see it because her retired soccer star husband always makes her turn the wrong side of her face on the red carpet.

The chatter about Victoria Beckham’s “miserable” image has followed her for years, dating back to her early pop days when fans mistakenly perceived her calm, composed demeanor as a sign of unhappiness.

In her new Netflix documentary, “Victoria Beckham,” the fashion designer admits she is well aware of her reputation for appearing cold or unhappy, but says there is actually a humorous reason behind it.

Victoria shared that her so-called “miserable” expression has less to do with attitude and more to do with positioning. She revealed that whenever she and David walk the red carpet, he always stands on her left, the same side from which she naturally smiles.

So when photographers capture her from another angle, it looks like she is not smiling at all, according to TMZ. “I’m smiling on the inside,” the star joked, adding that she looks “unwell” if she smiles from the wrong side.

While revealing the secret behind her signature red-carpet persona, her documentary will also highlight her journey as a designer, wife, and mother, while briefly revisiting the whirlwind years that made her famous.

The Blast notes that Victoria reflected on her time with the Spice Girls, the group that ruled the late ’90s with hits like “Wannabe.” She admitted that revisiting that chapter was emotionally heavy, saying it felt “almost like therapy” to talk about those four years.

Victoria shared that it took nearly two decades to feel comfortable confronting that part of her life, explaining that being constantly defined by it was a challenging experience. Still, she spoke warmly of her former bandmates, adding that she remains close to Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Mel B. 

“I love the Spice Girls,” she said, adding, “I’m so proud of everything we did. I wouldn’t have been who I am now if it wasn’t for the Spice Girls, 100 percent.”

Before all the recent headlines, Victoria was gearing up for a significant new chapter, one that could see her officially become Lady Beckham.

Back in June, her husband, David Beckham, was reportedly set to receive his long-awaited knighthood in King Charles’ Birthday Honours list, with Victoria standing beside him under her new title.

The Blast reported that David was first considered for the honor in 2011 for his contributions to British sport and his role in bringing the 2012 London Olympics to life. However, his name was removed from the list after being linked to a controversial tax scheme involving several other public figures.

Public calls for the former England captain’s knighthood resurfaced in 2022, especially after he spent 13 hours in line to pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. 

While anticipation built around David’s long-awaited knighthood, things behind the scenes were not entirely calm for the Beckham family. However, as tensions reportedly continue to rise, Victoria is leaning on the people who have always been her foundation: her parents.

The Blast highlighted that in June, the entrepreneur posted a warm family photo on Instagram featuring her mother, Jackie, and father, Anthony Adams. Dressed casually in a striped top and jeans, Victoria looked relaxed as she posed in front of a peaceful backyard scene.

Her mom stood elegantly in a crisp white blouse and peach pants, while her dad kept things classic in a white polo and jeans, all three sporting matching white sneakers.

It was a rare, down-to-earth moment from one of Britain’s most high-profile families. “Family weekends make me happy,” Victoria wrote, adding a sweet tag to her mom.

Before she became “Posh Spice” and one of fashion’s most recognizable figures, Victoria was simply a girl from Essex with big dreams. Born in 1974, she is the eldest of three children raised by Jackie and Anthony Adams, who built their family life on hard work and discipline.

It was reported that her parents started out modestly: Jackie juggling jobs as an insurance clerk and part-time hairdresser, while Anthony worked as an electronics engineer.
