Jeff Lewis addressed Mercedes “MJ” Javid‘s recent split from her husband, Tommy Feight, on his radio show earlier this week.
Days after the 53-year-old Shahs of Sunset alum filed for divorce from Tommy, also 53, after seven years of marriage, Jeff, 55, hinted at what may have led MJ to cut the cord on their relationship as he addressed her request for full custody of their six-year-old son, Shams, and offered an update on how the former couple is coping with the breakup.
“I think anybody in the inner chump circle was expecting this to happen,” Jeff began on an episode of SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live, which was shared on TikTok on October 22. “[And] I strongly believe as her good friend, this is the right decision for her and her son.”
“She’s seeking, I think … full custody with visitation, which I think is a good idea,” he continued.
According to Jeff, he’s been friends with MJ for a long time and is “invested in her happiness and well-being.” However, he seemed to think that Tommy wasn’t as invested as she was in their marriage.
“I know marriage is tough … It takes a lot of work,” he noted. “And I do believe that, again, from what I’ve witnessed, just over the many years, I think she tried every possible way to work through their issues. But you’ve gotta make sure you gotta have somebody that’s equally committed and equally invested.”
In addition to believing that the breakup was “best” for MJ and Shams, Jeff said he felt it would “be good for [Tommy], too.”
“I think this is gonna give him the kick that he needs and I’m actually, I’m encouraged by this for him because he’s gonna have to go out and be an independent man and make it on his own and find a — he does work but he’s going to need to probably find some additional work as well and I think that’s good and I think it’s good for him to model for his son,” he explained.
As for how MJ and Tommy have been navigating their divorce, Jeff said things have been good, “so far.”
“Everything is being very civil, somewhat friendly. Let’s hope it stays that way,” he shared. “The second you start talking about money is when it all goes south, but it’s friendly now. And also I find too that it’s friendly when people think they still have a chance of coming back, and then when they realize that door is closed for good, then [the horns come out]. And let’s hope that doesn’t happen.”
Jeff also signaled work ethic, saying that it is important that couples are on the same page.
“I think they have to have, I think your work ethics have to align,” he stated.

Mercedes “MJ” Javid will be seen with her former Shahs of Sunset co-stars, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi, 43, and Reza Farahan, 52, for a Persian-themed spinoff of The Valley sometime in the coming months.
