Carrey’s portrayal of the iconic Grinch is one that has stood the test of time of adaptations for the character. At the 73rd Academy Awards, the film also won an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and also earned nominations for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Carrey was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
Upon its initial release, the film was the highest-grossing film of 2000 domestically and the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2000 worldwide.
