Actress Sydney Sweeney made her way to Phoenix Raceway for the NASCAR Championship on Sunday, November 2, in a promotional visit for her new upcoming movie.
Sweeney, 28, stars in the film Christy which tells the story of legendary boxer Christy Martin and her husband’s attempt to murder her.
During the introduction of the drivers before the race, the actress made a speech to the four drivers who are vying for the championship, bridging together her character in the new movie with the enormity of the race.
“Most days, this checkered flag means victory, but today, it means something more,” Sweeney said to the drivers. “A dream realized, a life changed, a name that will never be forgotten.”
She continued: “In my new film ‘Christy,’ I play a warrior. A fighter who refuses to quit. ‘Christy’ is about grit, about determination — the same spirit that it takes to make it to the Championship Four. So, to our future champion, remember what this flag stands for. You’re not just another driver, you’re a NASCAR champion.”
Chase Briscoe, William Byron, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson are the four drivers competing for the championship on Sunday.
Sweeney was dressed for the part, rocking a racing jacket, shorts and red boots to join the sold-out crowd at the race.

She recently revealed that she had to gain 35 pounds for the new movie, eating “so many protein shakes” and Uncrustables in order to physically embody her character.
“It was a huge undertaking,” she explained on Sirius XM on Wednesday, October 29, of her physical transformation. “The emotional toll of the span of [Christy’s] lifetime, there’s a lot of growth, and a lot of pain and a lot of understanding.”
She added: “The physical change that I also undertook was a lot.”
In an Instagram post, Sweeney revealed that after she finished filming the movie, the actress called the film “one of the most emotional, transformative experiences of my life.”
“Christy’s journey is so deeply inspiring, and having her by my side during this process was nothing short of surreal,” she posted with a photo of her and Martin together. “There were moments on set where I’d glance over at her standing by the monitors, cheering us on, and I’d just become so emotional. Knowing what she’s endured, what she’s pushed through to be there in that moment—it made me want to cry.”
The post continued: “This story is so much bigger than just a film. It’s a testament to resilience, survival, and finding the strength to keep fighting. I can’t wait for you all to see it—not only because I’m proud of the transformation and the work I’ve poured into it, but because Christy’s story deserves to be told. And yes, you’ll get to see me kick some serious butt (like seriously kicked some butt) ((like I might’ve enjoyed it a little toooooo much while kicking butt haha)), but most importantly, you’ll witness a story that’s as powerful as the woman who lived it. I’ll carry this experience with me forever. Can’t wait to share more.”
The Euphoria and Anyone But You star is no stranger at sporting events, most recently attending Game 4 of the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays, sporting a Dodgers jersey.
Christy comes out on Friday November 7.
