A Catwoman movie was quietly canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the Catwoman character first debuted in DC Comics in 1940’s Batman #1. She has since been the focus of many Batman and DC stories, having been portrayed in live-action by stars such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Zoë Kravitz, and more.

What do we know about Warner Bros.’ canceled Catwoman movie?

Per DC Film News, Swaybox Studios — the production company now working on the animated Dynamic Duo movie for DC Studios — was developing a Catwoman film that was canceled back in 2022. It would have focused on a younger Selina Kyle when she was a child.

According to ComicBookMovie, Swaybox’s Arthur Mitnz said in a now-deleted 2025 interview with Biz New Orleans, “We were greenlit to make a project for HBO Max, a feature film based on Catwoman as a kid.”

Three months into development, Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav wanted to slow down the amount of content that was being made for streaming and gave the Catwoman project the axe.

“He canceled 42 projects, including ours,” Mintz said.

That being said, there is some good news. The Batman director Matt Reeves saw some footage from the Catwoman movie and, after putting together a sizzle reel, showed it to Zaslav liked what he saw, but reportedly said that the project needed a “larger story.”

Whether or not that means the project could ever be resurrected is unclear. The Dynamic Duo movie is also set to focus on young versions of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd; meaning, there’s a chance that Selina could show up in that film, and whatever was being developed for the Catwoman movie could be retooled to fit into Dynamic Duo.

At this time, however, it doesn’t sound like audiences should be holding their breath to see Swaybox’s Catwoman prequel movie.
