Is the Daily Planet downsizing? A new report about the upcoming Jimmy Olsen series reveals that the series won’t feature a couple of major Superman characters.
It feels like the wildest DC Universe news always drops out of nowhere. Nowhere was that more obvious than the other day, when it came out that Jimmy Olsen is getting his own spin-off series, tentatively titled DC Crime, which will likely follow the Daily Planet team as they investigate villains from across the franchise.
At this time, very little is officially known about the series aside from the fact that Skyler Gisondo will reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen. However, a report from Nexus Point News revealed that a number of other Daily Planet reporters will be joining the cast, including Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.
The Cut Daily Planet Cast Of Jimmy Olsen
Even though it seems quite a lot of the Daily Planet crew will be making their way into DC Crime, that doesn’t mean EVERYONE is along for the ride. The outlet also revealed that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will NOT be reprising their respective roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. This makes sense, not only due to them being higher profile actors, but also because the project is reportedly set to film alongside Man of Tomorrow.
This filming window for DC Crime could mean that Jimmy Olsen and the Daily Planet cast end up having a much smaller role in Man of Tomorrow than the original film. Though, given this is a series and not a film, it’s likely they’ll be having much MORE screentime despite not playing that large of a role in the upcoming sequel.
The Jimmy Olsen series DC Crime is currently in development for the DC Universe. Stay tuned for more news regarding the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe!
