Rick Flag Sr. isn’t done with Superman quite yet! Frank Grillo confirms he’s set to return as his iconic character in the film’s sequel: Man of Tomorrow.
Casting information about Man of Tomorrow has been slowly but surely working its way onto the net. The rumor mill has already been trickling out information about new and old additions to the DC Universe gearing up to make their return in the film. However, some majors characters such as Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. and John Cena’s Peacemaker still aren’t confirmed to make an appearance.
Yet it seems as though Frank Grillo is seeking to continue his streak of spoiling details about his involvement in the DC Universe. When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor confirms that he will be making his return as Rick Flag Sr. in Man of Tomorrow. His appearance in the Superman sequel marks the fourth DC project he has been involved in since the reboot.
Rick Flag’s Role In Man Of Tomorrow
Without knowing the full scope of Man of Tomorrow‘s plot, it’s hard to tell exactly what role Frank Grillo will play in the sequel. Grillo himself claims that Rick Flag Sr. will play a “big part” in Superman’s next story, suggesting that the ARGUS agent will somehow find a way to be just as prominent in the plot as the villain Brainiac.
Given Rick Flag Sr. is trying to intern metahumans in Salvation, it wouldn’t be shocking if Man of Tomorrow saw Lois Lane investigating ARGUS with the help of Checkmate. This would give Frank Grillo plenty of screentime in the film without sacrificing much from Brainiac’s storyline. Though, given Superman is playing second fiddle to Lex Luthor in the sequel, it’s possible that Grillo has a much more hands-on role.
Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters July 9th, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
