The long awaited spiritual successor to Star Fox is making waves again. After months of relative silence, Wild Blue Skies has resurfaced with a brand new gameplay trailer and the project looks sharper, smoother, and far more exciting than what we saw earlier this year.
If you’ve been hungry for a modern take on classic on-rails space shooting, this is one to keep an eye on.
Wild Blue was first unveiled back in March and instantly grabbed attention thanks to its pedigree. Developer Chuhai Labs was founded by Giles Goddard, one of the original programmers behind the Super Nintendo classic Star Fox.
That connection sparked plenty of curiosity, and now Chuhai Labs and publisher Humble Games have returned with an updated reveal, a slick new trailer, and even a slightly adjusted title.
The game is now officially called Wild Blue Skies, and the new footage gives us our best look yet of the experience Chuhai is aiming for.
According to the studio, there are “numerous” biomes in Wild Blue Skies including “oceans, desert ridges, and perilous caves,” and the latest trailer focuses on one of those intense environments.
What you see here is the “perilous” Hurricane level, where players weave through the swirling chaos at the center of a massive storm while battling waves of enemies. The spectacle is impressive and delivers the kind of kinetic, arcade style action fans have been hoping for.
Earlier trailers offered tiny slices of gameplay that didn’t communicate much personality or momentum. This re-reveal trailer finally shows the game breathing, moving, and embracing the wild energy that defined the SNES classic it’s spiritually following.
Chuhai Labs hasn’t locked in a release date yet, and for now we’re still waiting to learn when players will finally get their hands on Wild Blue Skies. But with Nintendo showing no signs of revisiting Star Fox any time soon, this project continues to look like the next great hope for fans craving that style of sci fi adventure.
If this new footage is any indication, the wait just might be worth it.
