Is Loki finally getting the happy ending he deserves? An Avengers: Doomsday writer reveals the MCU may have one more trick up its sleeve for the trickster God.
Loki had one of the most profound endings in the entire MCU. The series concluded with Tom Hiddleston’s frost giant finally taking the throne, serving as the shepherd for all the timelines that could not be contained by a loom due to their ever-expanding nature. And while Avengers: Doomsday is set to continue that ending, many still consider that to be the definitive closure point for the beloved character.
However, the ending wasn’t always that reflective. Michael Waldron, who wrote both Loki and Avengers: Doomsday, has revealed that season 1 of the series concluded with Loki setting off to explore the MCU’s vast Multiverse on a new adventure. It would’ve been a much more hopeful ending, and would have likely left the door open for the character to return in the future.
Loki’s Original Ending May Come To Pass
Michael Waldron recently did a Reddit AMA, during which he revealed quite a few interesting details about his work on Avengers: Doomsday and the MCU. When asked about the original ending for Loki, the writer admitted that there was a lot he wanted to say. However, he held back due to the open-ended nature of the franchise.
“I actually typed out the answer, but never say never, especially in the MCU,” Waldron wrote. “Maybe one day you’ll get to see it instead of read it.”
Of course, a simple AMA doesn’t confirm anything for a franchise as big as the MCU. However, given Michael Waldron is one of the two people writing Avengers: Doomsday– which may turn out to be the last time Tom Hiddleston ever plays Loki- it’s certainly worth consideration that the original ending may be echoed in this final chapter.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
