Wow, so a lot went down in tonight’s new episode of Murder in a Small Town. We knew things were closing in for Mayor Christie Holman, but I was not expecting this turn of events.

Cassandra confronts Christie with the information she received. Smart on her for making copies because from the looks of it she would want to make it go away to get her way. She even tried to bribe Cassandra asking her what she would want in return to look the other way. The audacity; Cassandra didn’t budge. She allowed her 24 hours to get herself together before she went public with the information.

Christie’s solution to this matter is to step down as Mayor, and honestly it’s the best move she could’ve made. However, somebody didn’t take kindly to that and knocked her senseless on the night of her event. Karl questions Christie’s son, Brett, her daughter, Natalie, and son-in-law, Robert. Something was off about Natalie and her husband to me and I had my eye on them. They had the most to lose with Christie stepping down, but would Natalie really hurt her own mother?

Once she’s awake, Karl asks Christie what she remembers from the night. It isn’t much, but get this, why did Lance Greenwood rush in there and basically try to stop Karl’s questioning? Yes, he’s her doctor, but not at this time, so what’s up with that? He was on my list after that, but the questions continued. While interrogating Brett, he immediately went on the defense , but it didn’t scream “guilty” to me. It’s more like abandonment issues. Upon further investigation, the school told Karl that Brett’s behavior has been escalating for a while and he was recently expelled for his violence towards his teacher. Not only that, he has been drawing disturbing images of his mother. On the pack of this image was an email between his mom and Natalie; one of the ones Cassandra received.

Things are starting to add up now. Brett was the one who sent Cassandra the emails. This makes so much sense; he’s obviously feeling lonely and with how busy his mom has been being mayor, and his father gone (killed in a car accident) he just wanted his mom around more. He wasn’t the one who hurt his mother.

While Karl was interrogating Robert, he let it slip that Christie was having an affair with Lance Greenwood – yes, her doctor. One of the caterers revealed that they overheard Christie arguing with Claire Greenwood the night she was attacked so she’s now brought in. She admits to having an argument but denies being the one to attack Christie, but she would have every right to after what she’s done to her. She tells Karl that she saw Natalie’s car when she was with Christie, which now debunks Natalie’s alibi.

Again, we don’t think Natalie would actually hurt her own mother right? Of course she wouldn’t, but who would have access to Natalie’s car and also something to lose if Christie stepped down as mayor? Robert. See? Knew something was suspicious about him. He tried to deny his involvement of course, but he was caught on a neighbor’s camera at the time of the attack. Christie stepping down ruined Robert’s plan to embezzle money. Robert, did we really think killing her would make matters better? Family dinners are going to be extremely weird now.

Speaking of weird, Cassandra gets a blast from the past when someone she knew back in Sacramento turns up out of the blue. She doesn’t seem particularly happy to see Warren, more like frightened. He asks to have lunch with her to talk and she declines. You’d think that would be enough to send him on his way, but no. Warren decides to follow her around town, ambushing her at every chance he gets.

Warren finds his way to the library – he tells Cassandra that he was released and was struggling with finding work. She doesn’t seem to understand where he’s going with this, but then he asks her for a job and that she owes him. Cassandra is visibly frightened and in this moment I thank Todd for being there. He did not hesitate to step behind Cassandra when it sounded like Warren was about to get aggressive. He takes it upon himself to keep an eye on Warren for Cassandra. Warren even made his way to Cassandra’s house demanding that he give her money for all the trouble she caused him. I am so confused at what this man thinks she owes him. You’re a stalker, you claim she led you on, she wants nothing to do with you, you’re being weird and you want her to pay you for that? Sir, keep it moving. Life is hard, you’ll figure it out without her.

What bothered me about this though was that when Todd informed Karl about what was going on, Cassandra lashed out on him because she didn’t want him to know about her previous life to that depth. Cassandra there is a man following you and you’re dating the chief of police, how could you not expect him to do everything in his power to keep you safe? You can’t really be upset at that, can you?

Now that the budget was approved for more officers, I need someone to notice that Laila is spiraling. She’s not sleeping well, and she’s trying her best, but it’s obvious the events of the shooting are still haunting her. She even broke her three-year sobriety. I don’t see this ending well if it continues.
