Fallout Season 2 Episode 2 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch

Kino Lorber has picked up rights for North America for The Currents, a psychological drama from Argentine writer/director Milagros Mumenthaler.

Mumenthaler’s third feature had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) this year, screening in the Platform section. The drama follows Lina, an accomplished Argentine artist and designer (played by Isabel Aimé González Sola), who has a traumatic experience, a near-drowning, while accepting an award for her fashion career in Switzerland. Back home, the incident continues to haunt her, and her life slowly unravels. She develops an extreme aversion to water and spirals into a post-traumatic numbness.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Jon Frosch gave The Currents, a rave review out of TIFF, calling the film “an uncommon mix of stylistic rigor and feeling,” that should “help put the movie’s gifted writer-director on the radar of cinephiles, arthouse distributors and programmers alike.”

In his review, Frosch notes the film’s most surprising quality “is its generosity, its aversion to cheap shocks, button-pushing or finger-wagging.”

Kino Lorber will release The Currents theatrically in 2026, followed by a multiplatform bow.

“We’re thrilled to bring Milagros Mumenthaler’s assured third feature The Currents to North American audiences,” said Karoliina Dwyer, vp of acquisitions at Kino Lorber, who negotiated the deal with Luxbox Head of Sales Jennyfer Gautier. “[It’s] a fascinating, tense character study with stylistic nods to Hitchcock, the film is deliberately paced and nuanced, subtly exploring themes of fear, shame, and trauma. The combined power of Mumenthaler’s exceptional filmmaking and Isabel Aimé González Sola’s impeccable performance is cinema we are proud to champion.”

The Currents is an Alina Film, Ruda Cine production. The film is written and directed by Milagros Mumenthaler and produced by Eugenia Mumenthaler, David Epiney, Violeta Bava, Rosa Martínez Rivero.
