The Batman is swapping out some key crew members! The highly-anticipated sequel has officially landed a new cinematographer ahead of its shoot next year.
One of the most defining elements of The Batman was its visuals. Crafted by cinematographer Greig Fraser, fans have been itching to see what he can cook up for the sequel. However, due to the film being shot alongside Dune: Messiah, Fraser had to drop out of working on The Batman Part II, leaving the crew without a cinematographer.
There’s been a lot of discussion about who should take over as the cinematographer for The Batman sequel. However, even though production is set to start up early next year, there’s been little-to-no official word on who will actually be joining the crew in Greig Fraser’s stead. This has left some fans worrying about just how well the film will look.
The Batman’s New Cinematographer
However, in a rare statement on social media, Matt Reeves actually came out to confirm a rumor about who will be taking over as cinematographer for The Batman sequel. The director confirms that award-winning DP Erik Messerschmidt will be picking up the torch from Greig Fraser when production starts up next year.
Erik Messerschmidt is one of the most acclaimed cinematographers in the industry. Prior to his upcoming work on The Batman sequel, he was known for his work on prestige projects such as David Fincher’s The Killer and Mank. He even has a history with action films, having worked on 2022’s Devotion with Glen Powell.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.
