What’s Going On: Coulier’s New Cancer Diagnosis After Lymphoma
In a shocking twist nobody saw coming, “Full House” legend Dave Coulier revealed he’s been diagnosed with a new form of cancer just months after he celebrated being cancer-free. According to reports, Coulier said his physician discovered a lesion at the base of his tongue during a routine PET scan — leading to a diagnosis of p16-positive squamous carcinoma, a form of oropharyngeal (tongue) cancer.
This news hits especially hard because this comes on the heels of his victory over stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which he battled in 2024 and early 2025. That cancer — aggressive, scary, and real — seemed behind him; doctors declared him cancer-free by March 2025.
In his interview on NBC’s “Today,” Coulier confirmed the new diagnosis and emphasized that this cancer is totally unrelated to the lymphoma. “Something flared on the PET scan,” he said. “It turned out that I have p16 squamous carcinoma at the base of my tongue.” When he asked if this was a rebound of the lymphoma, doctors told him, “Totally unrelated.”
He’s now undergoing 35 rounds of radiation — no chemo this time — and expects to complete treatment by December 31, 2025.
Why It Matters: Early Detection Saved Him — Twice
What makes this story hit so hard and so real is the role of early detection. Coulier said himself: this second cancer might’ve gone unnoticed if not for that PET scan.
Doctors treating head and neck cancers like p16-positive squamous carcinoma say prognosis improves dramatically when you catch them early. For Coulier, that means a curability rate of over 90%.
Medical experts also emphasize that cancers of the tongue or oropharynx sometimes don’t show obvious symptoms early on — no painful sores, no dramatic lumps, sometimes just subtle changes or nothing at all.
Coulier’s message to the public: get your check-ups, don’t skip your scans, don’t ignore those nagging health vibes. He says it loud and clear: things like colonoscopies, prostate exams, or regular dental / mouth screenings could save your life — maybe more than once.
His case has become a wake-up call, especially for folks who assume once you beat cancer, you’re “done.” Not always true.
From Lymphoma to Tongue Cancer: A Timeline of Coulier’s Health Battle
November 2024 — Lymphoma diagnosis
Coulier first revealed he had stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in late 2024. It came after what seemed like a simple respiratory infection — but quickly escalated into swollen lymph nodes, one reportedly the size of a golf ball. Doctors ordered PET and CT scans and a biopsy, which confirmed the aggressive B-cell lymphoma. Chemotherapy started almost immediately.
After months of grueling treatment, Coulier got the green light: in March 2025, he was officially “cancer-free.” His “Full House” family and fans celebrated.
