Shortly after Quentin Tarantino criticized Matthew Lillard during his podcast appearance, James Gunn showed his support to the Scream star with a new post, where the DC boss called Lillard one of his “favorite guys (and actors).” Tarantino’s harsh criticism of Lillard and other stars like Paul Dano and Owen Wilson has earned him severe online backlash.

Quentin Tarantino made headlines for his controversial comments on several actors like Owen Wilson, Paul Dano, and Matthew Lillard. The Pulp Fiction director said on the podcast, “I don’t care for him [Paul Dano], I don’t care for Owen Wilson, and I don’t care for Matthew Lillard.”

Lillard admitted that he felt hurt hearing the comments. “The point is, is that it hurts your feelings. It f***ing sucks. And he wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. He wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood. I’m very popular in this room. I am not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it’s humbling, and it hurts,” Lillard said.

As Lillard said this to the crowd at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio, the entire audience seemed to back him. Now, it seems that fans are not the only ones backing Lillard.

DCU boss and veteran director James Gunn showed his support for Lillard with a set of pictures on Threads. Gunn wrote in the caption, “Just a few photos over the years with one of my favorite guys (and actors), @matthewlillard. No reason.”

This post drew further reactions, where fans stepped up to show their support for the Scooby-Doo star. “Matthew Lillard was one of the best actors of the 90s and 2000s. Continues to rock to this day,” one user commented while another wrote, “We love you @matthewlillard.”

Meanwhile, other Hollywood actors have also stepped up to defend Paul Dano after Tarantino’s blazing criticism.
