Ahead if its world premiere as the 40th SXSW‘s opening-night film, Taylour Paige is looking forward to seeing her collaboration with Boots Riley in I Love Boosters.
While discussing this weekend’s Season 1 finale of IT: Welcome to Derry, available to stream Sunday at 9pm ET/PT on HBO Max, the actress told Deadline about the writer/director’s “entertaining, fashionable, c*nty” sophomore feature.
“Now we’re getting to the good stuff,” teased Paige. “I love Boots so much, and I’m so excited about this film. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It was so much fun to make.”
Noting she was “four and five months pregnant” while filming, Paige added, “We laughed so much. It was long days, sometimes 16, 17-hour days. I was pregnant as hell, and I was having the time of my life.”
The sci-fi comedy follows a Paige, Keke Palmer and Naomi Ackie as a crew of boosters (aka professional shoplifters/equal opportunists), who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven. It’s like community service.
“It’s funny, but it’s also got a very, very specific sociopolitical, economical—I mean, there’s so much commentary, but it’s fed to you in the most entertaining, fashionable, c*nty way. It’s just great. I haven’t seen it, I just know what it felt like, and I know Boots is just brilliant. Talk about a mind. We’re really lucky to be alive at the same time as Boots.
Led by Palmer, the movie’s ensemble cast includes Paige, Ackie, Poppy Liu, Eiza Gonzalez, LaKeith Stanfield, Don Cheadle and Demi Moore.
