If you’re still recovering from the final moments of It: Welcome to Derry Episode 7, you’re not alone. The series delivered one of its most unsettling endings yet and now a new behind-the-scenes clip is giving fans a look at how Pennywise star Bill Skarsgård pulled off that jarring kitchen sequence. It’s creepy, clever, and makes the moment even more disturbing once you see how it came together.
Episode 7 picks up in the aftermath of the Black Spot fire. Will Hanlon is grieving the loss of his friend Rich when the phone rings and he hears what sounds like Ronnie’s voice.
Things twist quickly as the tone shifts and the call becomes a taunt from Pennywise. Will’s fear spikes, voices overlap, and the tension climbs until Pennywise suddenly appears in the kitchen perched on top of the fridge. He leaps toward Will and drags him into the Deadlights, leaving viewers hanging on a brutal cliffhanger.
The new clip posted on social media shows just how the production team created that unnerving back and forth. Ronnie actor Amanda Christine and Skarsgård sit together running their lines, their voices merging as they rehearse the warped sound effect that plays over the phone call.
It’s a surprisingly simple setup that adds an eerie layer to the scene once the makeup and lighting take over. Skarsgård is already in full Pennywise form in the footage and the makeup team went heavy this time.
His costume includes the unsettling red stain that covers much of his body, a gruesome detail tied to Pennywise’s brief hibernation and the moment he was jolted awake when the army destroyed one of the pillars that had been trapping him beneath Derry.
Seeing Christine and Skarsgård blend their performances is pretty fun. The moment relies on rhythm and sound just as much as visuals. The behind the scenes interaction shows exactly how they achieved the strange layered voice effect before the scene cuts loose with Pennywise’s sudden appearance.
Episode 7 is clearly paving the way for an intense finale. The trailer for the final episode hints at Derry engulfed in a mysterious mist as Pennywise roams free. The kids appear ready to confront the killer clown and the showdown looks massive.
Even with the story barreling toward a finish, fans can take comfort knowing the series is already set to return for two more seasons. If this behind the scenes clip is any indication, the team is nowhere near done cooking up nightmare fuel.
