The entertainment world is waking up to devastating news as legendary filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles home. What makes the story even heavier is that the suspect is believed to be someone close to them…a family member.

According to details shared with PEOPLE, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for medical assistance on Sunday, Dec. 14, around 3:30 p.m. When first responders arrived at the home, they discovered a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased. Sources later confirmed the victims were Rob and Michele Reiner.
TMZ also reports that both were found with slit throats. Sources say the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, has been taken in for questioning. At this time, no arrests have been made.
Nick, 32, has previously spoken openly about his struggles with drug addiction and periods of homelessness, sharing his personal battles publicly in past years. Authorities have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
Rob Reiner’s impact on Hollywood is undeniable. He first became a household name playing Mike Stivic on Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family. But his influence didn’t stop there. They were dear friends, and Doug and I are devastated to learn of their passing. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this tragic time.”
