Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton are the stars of the upcoming Netflix thriller Apex, which now has a release date and first-look photos.
When is the Apex release date?
Apex streams exclusively on Netflix on April 24, 2026. Set in the Australian wilderness, Apex stars Theron as a woman on the run from a deadly killer (Egerton).
“A grieving woman seeks solace in the wilderness, only to find herself ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a serial killer,” Netflix’s logline reads.
People Magazine shared an exclusive look at Apex, which features photos of Theron rock climbing and a nefarious-looking Egerton pointing a crossbow. Before Apex, Theron only climbed as a child in Africa. To play this role, Theron underwent a rigorous training regimen.
“In this case, I was climbing a lot. I was climbing pretty much every day,” Theron told People Magazine. “And when I got to Australia I was kayaking a lot. That’s a massive workout. I was just getting a strong as I could because I climb all of the actual mountains in the movie. I’m climbing all of it — and I’m climbing it barefoot on my own raw feet.”
Apex also stars Eric Bana, who plays Theron’s onscreen partner.
Theron, Egerton, and Bana have all starred in recent action thrillers for Netflix. This past summer, Theron reprised her role as Andy for The Old Guard 2. In 2024, Egerton played a TSA agent who went head-to-head with a terrorist in Carry-On, the streamer’s third-most popular English-language movie of all time. Finally, Bana headlined Untamed, a 2025 crime drama set in Yosemite National Park.
Baltasar Kormákur directs Apex from a screenplay by Jeremy Robbins. Kormákur produces alongside Theron, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready, Ian Bryce, Beth Kono, and AJ Dix.
