Three children in Ohio are facing juvenile charges after allegedly stealing a car and crashing it into a residence, after learning how to do it from Grand Theft Auto tutorials on YouTube.
According to Dexerto, the incident occurred on December 20, when Newburgh Heights officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle speeding through the area. Police say they pursued the car for several minutes as it reached speeds of over 80 mph before slamming into a men’s recovery home. While the building sustained minor damage, authorities confirmed no serious injuries were reported.
Police Say 11-Year-Old Was Driving During Crash
Authorities later revealed that the suspects were three children ages 8, 11, and 12. At the time of the crash, police said the 11-year-old was driving the vehicle.
After the collision, the children allegedly attempted to flee the scene but were quickly confronted by officers and held at gunpoint before being taken into custody.
Children Admit They Learned to Hot-Wire Cars Online
During questioning, police said the children admitted they learned how to hot-wire a vehicle by watching online tutorials.
Investigators noted that the 11-year-old successfully managed to start one of three vehicles the group reportedly attempted to steal. Following the incident, the children were released to their parents and are expected to face charges in juvenile court.
