The Marvel Cinematic Universe may soon be getting its own version of Wolverine! A trademark suggests that a new project involving the character may finally be in the works.
It’s hard to bury the lead on this one. Recent trademark paperwork with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, as well as the European Union Intellectual Property Office, reveals that Disney and Marvel Studios have renewed the trademark on Wolverine. While this can often be done just to keep up with domestic and international copyright policy, it could also mean a new project starring the iconic X-Men is coming to the MCU.

There’s long been hope for fans that the MCU would find its own Wolverine shortly into the Mutant Saga. Dozens of popular fancasts have been floated, from Taron Egerton to Henry Cavill. However, it’s likely that the actor to play Wolverine in the MCU will be revealed in the upcoming X-Men reboot. Though, sadly, it may be a familiar face.
Is Hugh Jackman Back As Wolverine?
The rumor mill has been suggesting for quite some time that Hugh Jackman is here to stay as Wolverine, being the predominant actor to play the character heading into the MCU’s Mutant Saga. This was backed up by a post from Hollywood insider MyTimeToShineHello, who seems to confirm that Jackman will be the star of the project hinted at by the trademark.
Of course, there is a secret third option. Even if Hugh Jackman sticks around as Logan in the MCU, it doesn’t necessarily mean he has to be the Mutant Saga’s Wolverine. It’s very possible that this trademark could be for a movie starring Dafne Keen’s X-23, who has become the main Wolverine in the comics for quite some time.
A Wolverine movie is not confirmed to be in the works at Marvel Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
