One of the stars of Marty Supreme thinks that a major character should have died at the end of the movie.
A24’s Marty Supreme is now playing in United States theaters. Directed by Josh Safdie, it stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, Gwyneth Paltrow as Kay Stone, Odessa A’zion as Rachel Mizler, Kevin O’Leary as Milton Rockwell, and Tyler Okonma as Wally.
Who did Kevin O’Leary want to die at the end of Marty Supreme?
In a recent interview with Variety, O’Leary explained why he dislikes the ending of Marty Supreme.

“I told them I was really unsatisfied with the ending, for my character to get f—ed over like that. This kumbaya ending is absurd,” O’Leary said. He further explained that he thinks Marty “f—ed everybody” over throughout the course of the movie and that he should have to “live a life in misery in perpetuity after that.”
At the end of Marty Supreme, Marty is refused a ride back home to the United States with Milton, meaning he has to fly back with some United States Army soldiers. Upon returning home, he heads to the hospital to meet his newborn son — a child that he repeatedly said was not his — for the first time, and the film ends with a smiling Marty breaking down in tears at the sight of his boy.
O’Leary said that he thought A’zion’s character Rachel should have died at the end of the movie.
“Rachel has to die,” O’Leary said. “She has to die in childbirth.” According to Variety, Safdie considered this ending but ultimately decided it was “too sick.”
The official synopsis for Marty Supreme reads, “Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.” The movie, which opened on Christmas, has so far grossed around $58 million worldwide and is expected to be nominated for a number of different Academy Awards. Oscar nominations are being announced on Thursday, January 22.
