Who will now lead Venezuela? It’s the million-dollar question everyone is asking after United States President Donald Trump captured the nation’s leader Nicolás Maduro and claimed the U.S. will “run” the country until another favorable president is elected. However, interim President, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, has rejected the idea of U.S. control and operations within her nation.

Rodríguez’s declaration arrived after Trump told press, post-Maduro capture, that his administration spoke with the VP. Trump said, “She’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again.” Trump claimed Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a long conversation with Rodríguez, adding that she “doesn’t have a choice” in opting against U.S. control.
However, Rodríguez rejected Trump’s suggestion moments later. She declared that the country of Venezuela is “ready to defend our natural resources.” Rodríguez insisted, “We shall never be a colony ever again.” She continued to demand the return of Maduro, calling him the country’s only president.

Donald Trump Threatens Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez After Rejecting U.S. Plans To ‘Run’ Country After Nicolás Maduro Capture
Reacting to Delcy Rodríguez’s rejection of American intervention, Donald Trump told The Atlantic on Sunday (January 4), “If she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.”
During the telephone interview, Trump made it clear that he would not tolerate the Venezuelan Vice President’s defiant rejection of armed U.S. intervention following Maduro’s capture.
He added, “You know, rebuilding there and regime change, anything you want to call it, is better than what you have right now. Can’t get any worse.”
Elsewhere, Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that Trump also denounced the idea of Venezuelan Opposition Leader and Nobel Peace Prize Winner María Corina Machado taking over the country. Is leadership now in limbo?

Donald Trump Captures Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro And Wife, Places Them In NYC Jail
As we previously shared, early Saturday morning (January 3), U.S. Forces carried out several strikes across key locations in Venezuela. During the military operation, President Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured, placed on a plane, and removed from their country to face narcoterrorism conspiracy charges early next week in New York City.
Maduro and his wife touched down at Stewart Airport in Orange County, New York. DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agents accompanied the couple. The officials then took The Maduros to a DEA field office in Manhattan for processing.
Officials then transferred the Venezuelan couple to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC Brooklyn). This is the same jail that housed El Chapo, Diddy, Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, Luigi Mangione, Sam Bankman Fried, Michael Cohen, and many more celebrities as they awaited federal trials.
