Novo Nordisk is officially rolling out a pill version of Wegovy, giving patients an alternative to injectable weight-loss medication.
Beginning this week, the Wegovy pill will be available nationwide with a prescription, starting at $149 per month, according to reports. The move marks a significant expansion of access for patients who prefer oral medication over weekly injections.
The new option comes as demand for GLP-1 weight-loss treatments continues to surge across the U.S., driven by growing awareness of obesity-related health risks and new FDA approvals.
Pricing and Dosage Details for Wegovy Pill
According to Baller Alert, the initial pill dosage will be 1.5 milligrams, taken once daily. The Wegovy pill will start at a 1.5 milligram dose priced at $149 per month, while the 4 milligram dose will also cost $149 per month until April 15, after which the price will increase to $199 per month. The highest-dose option is expected to become available by the end of the week and will be priced at $300 per month.
Novo Nordisk confirmed that the pill will be available at pharmacies nationwide and through telehealth services, expanding access for patients receiving care remotely.
How Patients Are Instructed to Take the Wegovy Pill
CNN reports that patients must follow specific instructions when taking the Wegovy pill to ensure proper absorption.
Patients are required to:
Take the pill on an empty stomach
Use only a small amount of water
Avoid eating, drinking, or taking other medications for 30 minutes afterward
Medical experts stress that following these directions is essential for the medication to work effectively.
FDA Approval and Health Benefits
The Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Wegovy pill as a treatment for obesity and to help reduce cardiovascular risks.
Wegovy belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which help regulate appetite, slow digestion, and improve blood sugar control.
Health professionals say the pill option could be a game-changer for patients who were hesitant to start injectable treatments but still need medical support for weight management.
