Dangerous Truth Trailer Sets Iraq War TV Show’s US Release Date

The upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series for Prime Video is finally coming together, and the excitement around it keeps building. With Sophie Turner officially stepping into the boots of Lara Croft, fans are looking forward to seeing what this new take on the iconic video game franchise might look like.

Turner recently opened up about her preparation for the role, and it sounds like Amazon MGM Studios is going all-in on bringing Lara back in a big way.

Turner, best known to many for Game of Thrones, is taking the physical demands of Lara Croft seriously. In an interview with ScreenRant, she shared that her preparation began earlier than fans might expect.

“I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February this year (2025). I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January.

“I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider.”

It’s good to know that this version of Lara is going to be physically demanding and likely closer to the modern video game interpretations that fans have come to know.

Turner also made it clear she believes the project is worth the effort, adding, “I think it’s going to be something special.”

The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creative force behind Fleabag, alongside Chad Hodge. It’s an adaptation of the legendary Tomb Raider video game franchise and one of Amazon’s most high-profile genre projects in development.

Prime Video officially ordered the series in May 2024, and at the time, Waller-Bridge shared her personal connection to the character, saying, “Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

Lara Croft has a long history in live-action. Angelina Jolie brought the character to life in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 and returned for Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life in 2003.

Years later, Alicia Vikander took on the role in the 2018 reboot, offering a more grounded and gritty take on the explorer. Each version has its fans, and this new series has the advantage of long-form storytelling to fully explore Lara’s world.

Turner officially joined the project as the lead in September 2025. The growing cast includes Waller-Bridge herself, Jason Isaacs, and Martin Bobb-Semple. Sigourney Weaver is also in talks to join the series, which would be a huge win if it comes together.

With intense training underway, a strong creative team, and a cast that keeps getting more interesting, this Tomb Raider series is shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s most exciting upcoming adaptations.
