Localization already isn’t going well for Avengers: Doomsday! The film’s title change is disappointing fans before the movie can even hit theaters!
Localization isn’t simply slapping a title and script into Google Translate. It’s, truly, an art form. How a localization team changes something and what words they use to change it can drastically change the meaning of a story. “Sad” and “Depressed” technically have the same meaning, but have very different connotations. So it’s always exciting to see real-time updates on the localization of massive projects like Avengers: Doomsday.
Sadly, it seems as though the localization of Avengers: Doomsday is off to a bad start. A new post from The Beyond Reporter reveals that Marvel seemingly didn’t even try to localize the title of Avengers: Doomsday. Rather, they simply changed the name to Avengers: Doctor Doom.

Why Localization Matters For Avengers: Doomsday
Anyone should be able to clock why Avengers: Doctor Doom is a much worse title than Avengers: Doomsday. The change loses all of the mystique and charm associated with the original for something that is, frankly, lazy. Which is actually a key part as to why localization is important. If it’s done poorly or lazily, the market one is trying to penetrate may see the studio’s efforts as being only for money, instead of putting the time and care into localization that it deserves.
This is especially important for Avengers: Doomsday, as international markets have been the “make or break” for blockbusters over the last few years. While Portuguese-speaking countries are far from the biggest market, they aren’t a small one either, making them a key demographic in whether or not Doomsday flies or flops.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
