James Gunn is reportedly lining up a big DCU moment that fans have been waiting for. New information suggests that Wonder Woman could make her long-anticipated return in Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Superman.

While details are still coming together, early reports point to Gunn using the film to reintroduce one of DC’s most iconic heroes as part of his larger universe-building plans.

According to insider reports, Gunn has already begun casting discussions for the new iteration of the Amazonian warrior. The report comes from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic, where he confirmed that Gunn met with multiple actresses before the new year.

Sneider backed up earlier comments from cohost John Rocha, saying that Man of Tomorrow is set to introduce the DCU’s Wonder Woman.

Casting appears to be a priority right now. Gunn is reportedly searching for a rising actress to step into the role, with a specific type in mind. Industry insider @MyTimeToShineHello corroborated the scoop, sharing:

“It’s true they are looking at every young ‘hot’ (as in, upcoming) actress for the new female lead in Man of Tomorrow, but they also need her to be tall, 20s and have fighting skills.” Gunn hasn’t made anything official yet, but all signs point to the character being actively cast.

Much like how Wonder Woman debuted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this introduction would happen in a larger team-up story rather than her own solo film. That standalone project is still moving forward, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira working on the script, but Man of Tomorrow would serve as her first on-screen appearance in the new DCU.

Sneider also clarified that Batman won’t physically appear in the film, though the character will be referenced. That mention is expected to act as the first live-action acknowledgment of the DCU’s new Dark Knight.

The main story, however, stays focused on Superman, with David Corenswet returning as the Man of Steel opposite Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The two characters reportedly find themselves aligned against Brainiac, who will be played by Lars Eidinger.

The film also brings back familiar faces, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., continuing to flesh out the interconnected DCU landscape Gunn is building. Warner Bros. has set Man of Tomorrow for release on July 9, 2027.

If Wonder Woman really does step onto the DCU stage in Man of Tomorrow, it would be a huge signal that Gunn is ready to start assembling DC’s core heroes on the big screen.
