Jennifer Lawrence claimed she was in the running for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but lost the role because of her looks.

During an appearance on the Monday, January 12, episode of Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Lawrence, 35, alleged that Tarantino, 62, wanted her in the 2019 film, but other folks had conflicting opinions.

“Well, he did [want to cast me], and then everybody was like, ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,’” Lawrence claimed. “And then they didn’t.”

Horowitz responded “that isn’t true,” but Lawrence was adamant the story was accurate.

Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about her preferences when it comes to filming sex scenes. Lawrence, 35, explained that she gets “anxiety” before filming new movies during a conversation with Josh Horowitz about her film Die My Love at 92NY on Wednesday, January 7, according to People. For this reason, the actress prefers to film […]

“I’m pretty sure it is true. Or it’s that thing where I’ve been telling the story this way for so long that I believe it,” she quipped. “I’m pretty sure that happened, or he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just went out of their way to call me ugly.”

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is about the Manson murders and what would have happened if Tate survived. (Tate was murdered by Charles Manson’s followers in 1969 at age 26.)

When Tarantino was casting for the film in 2017, Lawrence was rumored as an option to play Tate along with Margot Robbie. Sharon’s sister Debra Tate publicly voiced her opinion that Lawrence wasn’t the person for the role.

“She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon,” Debra told TMZ at the time. “My pick would be Margot simply because of her physical beauty and even the way she carries herself is similar to Sharon.”

Robbie, 35, ended up landing the role and starred in the film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Debra was invited to the set for the movie and watched Robbie play her late sister.

“She made me cry because she sounded just like Sharon,” Debra said of Robbie in a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair. “The tone in her voice was completely Sharon, and it just touched me so much that big tears [started falling]. The front of my shirt was wet. I actually got to see my sister again … nearly 50 years later.”

Years later, Tarantino revealed that he did have Lawrence in mind for a part in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — but not as Sharon.

“But early on, I investigated the idea of Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky [Fromme]. She came down to the house to read the script cause I wasn’t letting it out,” Tarantino said during a 2021 episode of Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast. “So, she came down to the house and I gave her the script and said, ‘Go in my living room or go outside by the pool and read it.’”

Jennifer Lawrence says she didn’t use an intimacy coordinator for her sex scenes with Die My Love costar Robert Pattinson because he isn’t “pervy.” The Oscar winner, 35, got candid during her appearance on the Wednesday, November 5, edition of the “Las Culturistas” podcast, explaining that Pattinson, 39, made her feel comfortable while filming the […]

Fromme, who was a member of the Manson Family, was ultimately played by Dakota Fanning. While Tarantino did consider Lawrence for the role, he “couldn’t be happier with what Dakota Fanning did,” gushing that the actress, 31, had “one of the best performances in the movie.”

On Monday, Lawrence confessed she did have another chance to work alongside Tarantino. According to Lawrence, she was offered a part in Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight as Daisy. The actress decided to not take on the project, and Jennifer Jason Leigh landed the role instead. Lawrence expressed her regret for not saying yes to Tarantino.

“I turned it down, which I should not have done,” she said.
