Was Black Cat destined to be another bomb? Details about the cancelled solo film have found their way online thanks to a recent rumor.
Recently, it was announced that Sony Pictures was officially putting a wooden stake through the heart of the shambling corpse that was their Spider-Man villain universe. This was the explicit confirmation that multiple projects that had been previously announced- such as a solo film for characters like Black Cat and Spider-Man – were officially cancelled.
However, in an age where the rumor mill seems to scoop the color of Tom Holland’s socks before a movie gets officially announced, there was a surprising lack of information on any of these cancelled projects. Perhaps the most shocking of these is the cancelled solo film for Black Cat, which was perhaps the movie that spent the longest in development.
Black Cat’s Controversial Pitch
Luckily, a new rumor from Nerd Tower on Twitter/X has allegedly revealed some details about the cancelled film. The account suggests that the solo film would have served as an origin story for Black Cat, with Felicia Hardy donning a goth aesthetic. It’s only at her lowest that she would officially take on the mantle of Black Cat.
“Spill some gossip: In 2021, there was a Black Cat movie in production, I saw storyboards and in a specific sequence, she was dressed as a goth at a costume party, cries in the bathroom, smears her makeup and makes the ‘mask,’ BAMMMM Black Cat ready for action. It was awful.”
For as corny as this concept sounds, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to come out of that villain universe. And given how long fans have been begging to see Black Cat on the silver screen, it’s a shame her solo film got cancelled before it ever truly had the chance to bomb. Hopefully this means that, in the future, fans will be able to see Felicia Hardy tango with Spider-Man.
